Rob and Joseph talk Robocop, a favorite of ours here at YSGOAT. Set in 2043 Detroit, filmed in 1987 Dallas, this movie has it all: Robocops! Melting dudes! Regular cops! Dudes getting shot in the junk! Corrupt cops! Out of control privatization! Drugs! Dudes getting thrown through windows! ED209! Verhoeven! Cops in cars getting coffee! We'd buy that for a dollar!

The Blair Witch Project / Interview with Ben Rock

On the 20th anniversary of The Blair Witch Project, Rob and Joseph welcome Ben Rock, YSGOAT's first guest! Ben served as a production designer on the first Blair Witch Project and as a writer and director for several Blair Witch promotional specials. 

Ben gives us some behind-the-scenes details about the Blair Witch days and some great insight into what it took to launch Video Palace, a horror podcast he co-wrote and directed for Shudder. We also talk about the general state of horror movies and how republican administrations turn out great horror Oh, and also great horror movies!

Interview was conducted via Zoom - connection fades in some spots, but is overall strong. Big thanks to Ben Rock for his time. An American Werewolf in London

Rob and Joseph discuss the horror classic An American Werewolf in London! It's a great early 80s flick with a perfect mix of horror, comedy, practical effects, werewolves, and Jenny Agutter. There are also crazy dream sequences that will haunt you for years to come.

 

But first, we spend about a half hour discussing the Mueller hearings and what a mess of hot garbage Trump is. It may not seem related at first, but the werewolf movie has Nazi zombies in it, so the connection is pretty clear when you look at it that way.

Attack of the Clones

Rob and Joseph discuss what should have been the best movie ever - Star Wars: Attack of the Clones. We go from the obvious (Dated CGI! Horrible dialogue! Characters with poor decision making skills!) to the deeper cuts (Sifo-Dyas! Butt-picking aliens! The worst romantic exchange, WTF?!?), all in an effort to make sense of what should have been awesome - a move focused on the long-discussed Clone Wars. BUT, before we get into that, we spend the first 38 minutes talking about the Spider-Man custody battle raging between Disney and Sony. Are your spider sense or Midichlorians tingling yet?

Inglorious Basterds

Rob and Joseph discuss Inglorious Basterds, Quentin Tarantino's love letter to punching nazis. Part WWII alternate history, part meditation on the role of cinema in the modern world (probably), the movie has a lot to like, not the least of which is Brad Pitt as head basterd Aldo Raines and Christopher Waltz as one of cinema's greatest villains. The Basterds discussion starts at 39 minutes in - the first half hour or so is spent on a scene-by-scene discussion of the new Star Wars Episode 9 D23 teaser!
